Michael Perry is a lifelong steward of New Mexico's land, water, and wildlife. With over two decades of experience as a game warden for the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish and later as Assistant Commissioner over state lands at the New Mexico State Land Office, Michael has dedicated his life to protecting the very resources that make our state unique.
Now retired from state service, Michael owns and operates Wildlife and Habitat Prescriptions working hand-in-hand with ranch owners across New Mexico to develop responsible, science-based land and habitat solutions. His deep understanding of land management, watershed health, and wildlife conservation uniquely positions him to lead the State Land Office into a new era of balance-one where economic opportunity and environmental integrity go hand in hand.
Michael currently serves as Vice Chair of the Chaves County Commission and sits on the Public Lands Advisory Committee for the National Association of Counties, where he continues to advocate for common-sense land policies and public access.
Michael is deeply committed to addressing the growing threats of wildfires and flooding across New Mexico. He has worked alongside local, state, and federal agencies to implement proactive forest and watershed management strategies and believes in the power of collaboration to prevent future disasters. His passion for protecting lives, property, and the land itself drives his commitment to strengthening interagency coordination and building a more resilient New Mexico.
He also understands that New Mexico is an incredibly diverse state-geographically, economically, and culturally. From the mountains to the deserts, and from farming communities to urban centers, each city, town, and village faces unique challenges. Michael believes that these differences cannot
be addressed with one broad brushstroke. Instead, he is committed to listening to local voices and creating solutions that are tailored to the specific needs of each community.
A proud husband and father, Michael has been married to his wife Kimberly for 30 years. They share a deep love for New Mexico's outdoors and raised their son, Colton, with the same respect for
the land and the people who depend on it. Whether hunting, fishing, or working with landowners, Michael's heart remains rooted in rural New Mexico.
Michael is running for New Mexico State Land Commissioner not as a Republican or Democrat-but as a dedicated public servant who understands the importance of collaboration, accountability, and responsible land management. He believes in protecting New Mexico's natural resources, supporting rural economies, ensuring access to public lands, and standing strong for the vital oil and
gas industry that funds our schools and communities.
